Mathews, Frank

Frank Mathews

Frank Mathews (also known as “Frank the Tank”) is a Modern World History teacher as well as the Ida B. Wells Men’s Soccer coach and Social Studies chair. He was born and raised in Rockford, Illinois, where he lived for the first seventeen years of his life before going to the University of Wisconsin. He double majored in education and history, before pursuing his first job as a teacher in a Taiwanese international school in 1998. He’s remained a history teacher since, and he arrived at Ida B. Wells in 2016. “I like learning about history, and teaching allows me to be a lifelong learner,” says Mathews. In his free time, he enjoys coaching, playing tennis, and traveling. He also likes to play drums in his band, Staff Infection, and works on the show Mortified Nation.
